My New Business????

Guysss.. I'm about to start the most insane week of my life. By the time you read this, my sister business to Wallie Wax Co. will be OPEN. I kept this business (and it's opening) a secret for months. I thought it would be fun to keep everyone guessing what it could be. I dropped clues that weren't really clues.. but now I can breathe.. Everyone say hello to:

I'm so f****** excited to open a lifestyle + gift shop that focuses on carrying Artisan made, local goods. I spent countless hours picking vendors that focused on high quality goods at affordable costs. I wanted a shop that you could go to to find the perfect gift for your friend, teacher, coworker, boss etc. but also find trendy, modern items for yourself too. I know being a downtown based store people can expect to pay more but I wanted to offer these fun items without breaking the bank. I have always loved retail and having the freedom to be creative in product display, marketing and creating a cool vibe.

Poppy's was created because I saw a need for a gift shop with trending items. In my hometown of Salina we have an amazing Downtown community of family owned shops, I love having my Salon here. I was born in Albany, Oregon and I usually visit twice a year. One thing I always find when I go down there is what I call "hippy shops" they're spunky, fun merchantiles. I always wanted to open one but didn't want to take the jump because, let's be real, opening a Business is just like gambling. You hope you at least make your money back. I presented this idea to my parents who invested and are my partners of P&V.

Once I moved Wallie's I still had my building leased. I put so much work into it I didn't want to lose it to a subleaser, especially with the location. I ran the numbers and created a Business plan, secured an investor and began the work of birthing this new shop.

THE NAME. I couldn't decide for the life of me what to call it I just know I've always loved the name "Poppy" it reminds me of happiness. I met with a good friend who branded Wallie's for me and asked for her help. She gave me a list of "Poppy and ___" names and I immediately clicked with "Poppy and Vine" since I would be carrying plant accessories Vine seemed fitting. One of my inspirations for Poppy's was Grow in Wichita, the cutest plant shop. Thus, Poppy and Vine was born.

I found the DOPEST items that I couldn't believe were made in Wichita, Lawrence, Hays and Kansas City. I feel my heart flutter every time I can buy from small, local vendors. I want to support community and not mass produced, cheaply made items. One thing we need to do as humans in this economy is help our family owned businesses. They are the ones supporting your kids baseball teams and donating back into your local community. For Wallie's Ive consistently donated to DVACK and supported kids fundraisers, soccer teams, race cars, gofundmes etc. I can't wait to do more as Poppy's as well.

We are a woman (and Lance lol) owned, small family business. I put my heart and soul into this and I really hope Salina enjoys it. Sorry for the wait but I promise you, it was worth it. Check out our instagram for all the updates on the newest items, @poppyvine_

Our temporary hours will be Thurs-Sat 10-5!

Until next time (and business venture... jk),

Kat Jeske
